Lawn Size Calculator – Measure Your Lawn on a Map
Measure your lawn from satellite imagery and see how much grass your robot mower actually needs to maintain.

Measure your mowable lawn area
Find your property, then measure the grass a robot mower needs to cut. Use Assisted Auto-detect for the quickest setup, or draw the lawn manually.
Your address and lawn outline are used in your browser for this measurement. This plugin does not save them to WordPress.

Measure the lawn your robot mower will actually cut
Your property size is rarely the same as the area a robot mower needs to maintain. Houses, driveways, patios and flower beds can reduce the mowable lawn considerably.
A lawn size calculator gives you a more realistic area to compare against robot mower capacity before you start shopping.
Find your property
Search for your address or use your location, then position the satellite map so the whole property is visible.
Outline the property
For Auto-detect, place points around the whole plot so the tool knows where to look for grass.
Check the lawn
Review the detected area and add missed grass or remove non-lawn sections before using the result.
How to use the lawn size calculator
Search for your address or use your current location. Once the property is visible, choose Auto-detect lawn or draw the lawn manually.
For Auto-detect, outline the entire property — not just the grass — then click inside the lawn. The tool estimates the grass area within that boundary.
Use Add missed grass or Remove non-lawn to correct the result. Individual boundary points can also be adjusted before accepting the measurement.
Why lawn size matters for a robot mower
Robot lawn mowers are designed for different maximum areas. A mower intended for 500 m² may struggle with a 1,200 m² lawn, while a much larger machine may be unnecessary for a small garden.
The useful number is the amount of grass the mower will actually maintain — not the total size of the property.
Once you know the area, use the Mower Finder to compare it alongside slope, terrain, layout and navigation needs.

Measure multiple lawn areas
Many gardens have separate front, back or side lawns. The lawn size calculator can combine multiple grass sections into one total mowable area.
Area is only part of the picture, though. An open 800 m² lawn can be much easier to manage than several separated areas with the same total size.
What should you include in the measurement?
Measure the grass you actually expect the robot mower to cut.
- Include: mowable grass and connected grass sections.
- Exclude: houses, driveways, patios and permanent paths.
- Exclude: pools, flower beds and other areas that will never be mowed.
- Auto-detect: outline the whole property first, then identify the lawn inside it.

How accurate is a satellite lawn measurement?
The result is an estimate based on the satellite imagery and the boundary you create. Manual tracing can be very accurate when the lawn is clearly visible, while Auto-detect should always be reviewed before you accept it.
Trees, shadows, dry grass and neighbouring vegetation can affect automatic detection. Use the correction tools if the detected outline is not quite right.
For choosing a robot mower, the goal is not survey-grade accuracy. It is a realistic estimate that helps rule out obviously undersized or oversized machines.
Lawn size is only one part of mower fit
Slope, terrain, separate lawn zones, trees, navigation and boundary setup can all change which mower is the better choice.

Lawn Size Calculator FAQs
Can I measure my lawn from my phone?
Yes. The map works in a modern mobile browser. You can use your location to centre the map, then check the lawn boundary manually.
Should I measure the whole property?
The final result should contain only mowable grass. For Auto-detect, however, first outline the whole property so detection stays within the correct plot.
Can I measure more than one lawn area?
Yes. Separate grass areas can be measured and combined into one total mowable area.
Does the lawn size calculator store my address?
MowCompass does not need to save your searched address or lawn outline in WordPress to calculate the area during the current session.
What should I do after measuring my lawn?
Use the result in the Mower Finder alongside slope, terrain, layout and navigation preferences.
Measure first. Match second.
Measure the grass, check the result and use it to find robot mowers better suited to your garden.
